Ask HN: Alternative to Buffer Reply for Twitter keyword monitoring?

Hi 👋

With Buffer discontinuing their Reply product soon. I'm looking for a replacement app that can do the following:

  • Monitor my own Twitter account(s) for mentions and DM's
  • Monitor hashtags and keywords and respond to those
  • Should support keyboard shortcuts and make it quick to deal with replies etc. similar to how Superhuman does for mail.

Any suggestions?

For Twitter monitoring check out syften.com. It supports other communities as well.

Hey Herman, definitely try Agorapulse, it's the closest thing to Buffer reply. Depending on what legacy plan you were in, it may be more expensive or a lot less expensive ;-)

Thanks @eernoult. Agorapulse looks good, just a pity it's a bit slow. Not sure what the deal is with the animation when marking an item as complete. Would be amazing if it could be snappier.

Happy to look into it with you, my email is in my profile if you want to set up a call :-)
It's definitely a slightly different interface and there are things that will be different. Some better, some not ;-) But I know the tool well so I can show you some tips & tricks, like keyboard shortcuts.

Thanks. The keyboard shortcuts work well. Just a pity about the delay when closing an item. Would be great if there was a way to quickly get to "inbox zero" when dealing with many replies etc.

Have you tried bulk approve: https://share.getcloudapp.com/12u1YnYZ ?
Also, you can try the "auto advance" option, you can find it in your personal settings: https://share.getcloudapp.com/bLum9nED It's designed for users with high volume of incoming messages who need to respond fast to dozens in a row.

Thanks! That actually helps a lot. Will be giving Agorapulse a try over the next couple of weeks.

You can use a tool like Zapier or IFTTT to monitor Twitter and then connect to another app/tool of your choosing. Takes a little setup, but highly customizable.

Thanks @rickrey! That's actually a pretty cool idea.

Only thing is responding to those Tweets might not be simple.

Hi Herman, It seems like I'm late to the conversation but I'll recommend taking a look at Statusbrew. It solves all your use requirements.

Thanks @osmanerdi, Juphy looks great. I've decided to build something inhouse though as my need is very simple and I needed a lockdown project to work on 😜

Have you tried if Mention.com / Notifyly works for this practice? @hschutte

Hey Sam, like I mentioned above in my reply to Herman, Agorapulse, is the closest thing to Buffer reply. You can check how it compares price wise using this tool: https://social-media-management-pricing.iag.me/
      I hope this helps
