I just launched a side project app evntoapp.com and would welcome feedback on the concept and thoughts on marketing.
The app is to help keep track of school events. As a parent with 4 kids in school this was a problem born from personal experience! The app aggregates all school calendars and syncs events to your mobile calendar. The cost is 0.99 per school year.
At initial launch I've only included a few hundred schools near one geographic area (Northern Virginia) as a way to test the concept. We've started with some install ads on Facebook. What are ideas on additional marketing? I'm also doing grassroots campaigns, reaching out to schools and parent PTO groups, but that approach doesn't scale well to more markets.
Hi Dave, that's interesting idea. I'm curious, how do you keep everything up-to-date? How all that syncing (on your side) is happening, do schools have some calendar systems already in place or...?
I saw you increased the price to
for a low 2.99 in-app purchase👍I tried to download the Android app (have Nexus 5X with newest Android) but it says
This app is incompatible with your device.- not sure why?As for the landing page - there is nothing on the
Blogso not sure is it necessary, and header image is way-to-blurry :/ Although, Comic Sans is a nice touch 😄Maybe work a bit on ASO (App Store Optimization) as in rename the app on the Store instead of just
EVNTOto something likeEVNTO - School calendarsor something, to increase your odds. When I read the description it says
will be instantly synced to your calendar- not sure which calendar, some in-app calendar or my Google calendar or...? Can't install the app so it's hard to tell. Not sure if it works this way but just a thought - maybe just arrange a payment for a always-up-to-date Google calendar, without any app to install etc.? Lower friction and wider reach (anyone could use it with their own calendar apps) could maybe improve your business, not sure.
Cheers 🙌
Not sure why your device would be incompatible. Are you located in the US? There is a country restriction.
The sync is with the device's calendar. The app is really just used once to set it up then they'll never open EVNTO again. The sync is through a iCal feed. On iOS it shows as a subscribed Calendar since it supports webcal feeds natively. In Android it is a daily background sync to update the device calendar.
You are right - it's the country thing, although the warning from the Play Store
This app is incompatible with your deviceis a bit misleading :/ Yeah, I'm not in the US.As for the syncing, exactly what I was thinking 👍
Hi,
I like the idea, and I would use it if it existed for the school my kids go to.
I think you can ask for double if not more than your current price. 0.99 for a year seems to low for you to ever make any money on it.
Have you thought about profit sharing with the schools? Here in Belgium schools are always looking for money by selling waffles or calendars or other stuff parents only buy because they want to support the schools. Would be great if you could support he school and get something useful out of it.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought about sharing profits with the schools, but there wasn't much left to share at .99 price point. I didn't even consider increasing the price until you suggested it! I'm going to run some tests at higher price points. Conversion rate was just above 50% for users to pay the .99 in app purchase
