As per the title, I am curious to hear from people who are currently making a living by working full time on SaaS or related business as to what their typical day looks like? What are the most common misconceptions that people seem to think about it? What are the biggest benefits and downsides in your experience?
My day varies season to season and month to month depending on what the business needs.
Right now I spend 30% of my time networking, building relationships, and selling. I spend 50% investing in my marketing on ConvoPanda through new content or new features on the site.
I spend the last 20% delivering consulting services to my clients.
I anticipate that I'll spend more time on operations over the next few months as demand picks up. Then I'll start hiring people to do operations and focus my time more on marketing, sales, and new product development.
Depends on the location I am at (not bound to one place/city). Also changes based on working on something completely new (as now with Muna) or a big new feature.
But typically, most days consist of (future) customer interactions. Either direct support or indirect with marketing.
In between there are some bugfixes, aligning/communicating with freelancers who work on some specific features and then sometimes some coding/designing.
That last bit is usually the biggest misconception: running a business is mostly about humans (helping, guiding, talking, convincing, listening) and not just developing or designing you app (or whatever product you have).
Just a heads up if you try to reach customers in Finland: "muna" is a slang word for penis. It's literal translation is egg but it has a double meaning.
Haha! Yes, looked it up in the Urban dictionary (my secret tip when looking for names), don't think it's a big problem… ;)
Thanks though! ✌️
We're taking on our first customers with https://usepunch.com/ and I can see how much my day to day work is shifting from designing and developing to dealing with our early users.
I took a look at Muna - nice site. A friend of mine runs https://www.hrpartner.io/ which operates in the same space.
With your site's opening screenshot, it wasn't immediately clear that Bluth is the SaaS company in question. Could be "Nicolas is leaving us after 4.2 years." I suspected it was a business from popular culture, but haven't watched the show and so it wasn't instantly obvious.
Given all your examples in that screenshot are dates, just be aware that the phrasing could be awkward in parts of the world. It reads like Nicolas is the 4th Nicolas who's worked there. What about 5th Nicolas? There might be a more generic date format, or you could use opacity/bold to differentiate better? "On date, -name- celebrates their 15th anniversary with Bluth."
Cool. Thanks for taking the time to check it out. 👏 Loads has changed from those initials screen. "Launching" soon. If you want I can send an early invite.
Muna looks great. Just signed up.
Thanks! Feel free to spread the word. "Launch" is really soon. ✌️
And sorry @mdh—didn't mean to hijack your topic.
