Ask IH: I passed two exams with this project. Could it be a busniess?

OOPSpam multiple spam filter

Hi IH community,
Previously, I asked for an advice from the community and got tons of positive feedback about being a student and hacking my way to business.
As a part of master's program, I have done some project on spam detection and developed OOPSpam. Recently, I shared it on Product Hunt and got some good vibes.
I have a few concerns :

  1. Is this product has a potential as a business?
  2. I am also concern about the ethical part that someone will use it for spamming/tricking others.

Thanks!

Interesting. If you could spin this out as a paid API with either pay for access or pay per query, then I am sure there would be some interest!
    Answering your questions:

    1. Yes.
    2. This will sound harsh, but it does not concern you. Literally, there is nothing you can do without cutting the branch you sit on. As long as you do not encourage using this tool as such and you are not building a backdoor for such a behaviour, then your options are close to none. This seems to be a non-problem now that will become a problem only if you will grow and grow big.

      Thanks for the response!
I am planning to work on and implement extra features as well.
I guess there is no way to stop people from misusing something.

          Thanks for the feedback!
Yes, there are banned IP addresses which most spam filters use. If the email comes from those blacklisted servers, it is automatically considered as a spam before even scanning the content.
About scoring, definitely going to implement scoring and show a user what is wrong with the content.
Obviously, this is a content analysis and do not guarantee a straight path to the inbox as there are so many factors that make the content a spam such as blacklisted IP, user behaviors (moving an email to spam folder etc.).

Great idea! Thanks! I am looking for ideas like this to make it more than content analysis.

I should make a research about ToS to secure myself from legal issue as you pointed out. Sometimes the website receives suspicious traffics, I wonder if they use the tool for spamming :\
