Ask IH: New Startup with Good Potential? Rate my idea.
I want to start off by introducing myself, I am Andrew, I am a full time live streamer on Mixer/Twitch, a Mixer Partner and Twitch Affiliate (my batman job). In the day time I am Director of Devops of a National Modular Home Company.
That being said I had a thought one day that the reason that most Live Streamers don't have websites is because they either 1. Can't afford them or 2. Can't make edits / build the website themselves. So I reached out to my friend Jack and we started hashing out ideas to make this happen. I want to create a place for Live Streamers to go to and purchase hosting/security/website for a small fee and edit maintain the website themselves. At a very low cost of 14.95/mo and a one time set up fee of 49.99 or if they would like us to do all the work the fee would be 249.99, With this we will offer the hosting, a secure website, ability to add their live stream, and even show live statistics of their stream so that potential sponsors and/or partnerships can evaluate them. (previously you would send a static one page infographic that you had to get commissioned by a designer)
Our current demo is set on https://test.verygoodplugins.com it is a rough version of what we will offer, not much has been cleaned up design wise. My question is simple, what are like minded peoples thoughts of this "dream" and if you have any suggestions what would they be? Is the startup fee off putting? What about the pricing model, too much too little?

Idea is good. But perhaps you should gauge the interest of the service among the streamers themselves. Perhaps you could do one or two websites for some streamers and then use them as case studies for why other streames should join the service?
Thank you for the comment. We have actually a handful of streamers we are working with as "beta testing", they will get the site at a reduced cost.
It's a good idea but whats the big difference between your product and just wordpress site with free plugins....
Most streamers don't know what plugins to use, what hosting service to use, how to keep their site secure, how to install an SSL or even what the heck an SSL is. (plus there are paid plugins in each site) We provide all this for them.
You thought of two reasons why streamers don't have websites. Is it possible that they simply don't need one? They've got Youtube and all the other social media to post their stuff on and build presence.
I know almost nothing about this, but I do know about Ninja, who I believe is one of the biggest Twitch streamers right now (or was months ago for sure). He for example doesn't have a website. Only a store where he sells his merch - there's not even a word about who Ninja is.
Thank you for replying, Most companies such as Monster or Razer or Gfuel usually wont sponsor you unless you have some kind of web presence. Relating any other streamer to Ninja (the worlds biggest streamer) is like rating me to Steve Jobs lol. In addition he doesn't go after sponsorships they come after him, for example, Sprint just signed him.
