Ask IH: Starting a Blog for very specific niche

Do you know how many Brazilians/Portuguese speakers are there in Canada? I bet there are regional Facebook groups where all Portuguese-speaking people are in. You could use these groups to reach your audience. As others said, the content is the king. If you have great regular content, people will come.

I have the following tips for blogs with the intent for monetization:

• start with your own domain name and make sure the name is something that helps you with SEO (unless you are going to expand to other niches or have a personal blog)
• when you cross-post your content to other platforms like medium make sure to set canonical URL to your own site and post only teasers on the social networks
• pick only one or two social networks to focus on (I guess Facebook fits the best, are there social networks that Brazilians/Portuguese speakers use?)
• don't focus that much on customizing the site, more focus on the content
• from the beginning start building community and encourage user-generated content: 1) have a comment section (shameless plug: https://www.indiehackers.com/product/justcomments) 2) have a newsletter

My guess is that someone interested in investing in Canada is also fluent in English and so you will be competing with the best resources out there. I could be wrong obviously.

The narrow the audience the better, I would say. And yes, keep the story real and authentic. Don't try to reach 1 million audience, but a fanatic fan of 100.
