Ask IH: What do you do with idling VPS?
I have multiple DO droplets for my projects which are used in a very inefficient manner and couldn't be downgraded. I could merge them together, but it takes time because of different stacks.

One suggestion I do have is move everything to Kubernetes and Docker containers. Then you can easily have any N nodes which more or less cumulatively represent the resources you need and it will schedule all necessary pods in a sensible fashion in regards to the resource requests you specify on deployment. It might be overkill but it's great once you start hosting 3+ projects.
Not sure if running this on DO will come at the same benefit as you now have to manage k8s yourself, but GCP or AWS free tier and credits give you plenty of runway to make up the difference in VPS cost compared to DO.
Pretty much what you said. It’s a pain in the butt and waste of time to consolidate. Depending on how much money is involved, sometimes I leave it.
