Ask IH: What is the difference between startup idea and indie makers one?
Hey IH. Do you guys think whether there is any difference between startup idea and indie makers one? I think Indie makers ideas are focused on earning livings. And it's too niche. Startup ideas must be scalable, but Indie makers must not be always scalable. It's enough for them to make livings.
Do you think Nomad List should be an equity startup?
Do you want to create a lifestyle business or the next big thing? In my opinion that’s the difference.

I'm trying to make the next big thing but I have to earn livings before it :)

Startup = aiming to be a billion dollar company in 5 to 10 years. Typically VC funded.
Indiehacker = 200k ARR / employee is a success. Typically bootstrapped.
It's clear to understand.
Is it binary?
I feel like an indiehacker/maker idea can be a startup idea... but not all startup ideas can be indiehacker/maker
Feel like it's more about the approach and the priorities of the founder.

Good cause I want to feel like I belong here.
I still feel like I have an indiehacker mindset but if what I'm doing grows bigger, I'm willing to go for the ride and see where it takes me. As long as I'm not sacrificing my true priorities.

As an indie hacker you really have to be strategic with what kind of business you choose. It has to be something that one person can manage in a small enough niche that other big companies won't be able to just gobble up but at the same time something that you can make good money from. Its a hard balance!
