Wow, I thought this was much more diverse group. I wonder how can we get different people involved though. It's only natural that people tend to build communities with their peers

I decided to take off a year to try to grow a successful business.
Currently that is not going to well but I still have 10 months to go lol.

I am spending all my days building, coding, learning new skills (about marketing, products, maths, frameworks, etc). I am also working my way through every podcast, currently down about 60. I am learning new things everyday.

I hope things work out within a year, at most I can push is to 1.5 years.

But prior to this, I was working as a website developer.

I'm a writer/lecturer, so I moonlight working for a few universities, run my own writing and social change social enterprise, and also write for a living. I used to be a full-time academic (and may be again some time in the future), but for the last five years have been freelancing in various parts of the world.

Voted Software Engineering, but also had experience in some of the other roles mentioned. Thought there would be more sales people in the community.

Researcher in workplace learning and team development (behavioral scientists/ computational social scientist). I also do survey development and HR analytics, but that's a side job of the side job.

Also, single mother of 4 girls. Not sure if I should count this as a side job, day job, night job, no job...

I'm at a startup. I'm CTO (VP/Executive) + Engineering + Product Management + UX designer.

I selected Engineering (software) but would have selected multiple if able.

Edit: also, I went part-time in October of last year to have more time to work on my stuff.

Research and Development Scientist doing product development work for a construction products company.

Used to be cyber security researcher. Handy skills when hacking around, even when it's a completely different meaning now.

I am in kind of a niche role in our Sales Org. Demo Engineering builds applications, interactive mockups and assets to support Sales opportunities.

I voted "Other" because I work as UX/UI designer AND software engineer. It's a rare combo, but I am quite happy with it... :-)

Not surprising results tbh. I think it'd also be interesting to see the breakdown within each of the categories by company size, etc.

Business Development at paperless.io 🤓 Crazy, only 2% works in Marketing & Sales

My main skill is software but I have a lot of experience in most of the other fields mentioned. I still had to pick software because that's what I've spent most of my time on by far.

My full time job is a bit of a jack of all trades lol.

I feel like this is a pretty good combo for an aspiring entrepreneur.

I'm currently enrolled in a Masters degree in Entrepreneurship.

Tbh I'm considering taking the next semester off because of "all online", and generally I don't find the theoretical approach my university takes – mixed with (very few) case studies that are outdated – particularly interesting.

In case you wondered, they do not teach indie hacking. Instead it's classic "massive idea, big money"-approach that might aswell be learned through the Y-Combinator youtube channel. Maybe they want to push their own incubator, who knows.

Edit: Totally forgot to mention that the head of this faculty never actually built a business himself. His whole career was academic. Hilarious.
