Ask IH: Who has a product that requires the customer to build a new habit?

I'm building an app where the real value increases as the customer uses it on a regular basis. I know that habit formation is a challenge for many health/fitness, and language learning apps. I'd love to see your products and hear your stories.

Hey Robin - nice to meet you. Happy to give you some feedback on your project. Let me know where I can find it!

I'm building Tribe of Five which is an accountability app for entrepreneurs to level up their skills.

Day to day, the app helps you follow through and take action to be more productive, focused, and disciplined.

In my mind, these are all skills. And every skill can be learned. But it does take consistent practice.

And that's where Tribe of Five comes in! Link to project for reference: www.tribefive.me

Happy to chat more and share notes / lessons learned. Feel free to reach out at jonathan@tribefive.me.

Checkout BJ Fog tinyhabits - might be helpful.
Also, checkout the book: Hooked, by Nir Eyal

Thanks @Shaunau ! I love PJ Fogg! I haven't read "Hooked" but have listened to some of Nir's talks on Youtube. Do you have experience with creating habits in products, or what got you interested in these books?

I’ve been building software products for ~20 years, it’s mostly for career work, and obviously I dabble with plenty of personal projects too. But nothing I can point to specifically as building habitual usage within software products as described in Hooked.

Tiny habits interested me because I recognise my own strong tendency to schedule and habitualise almost everything, and it’s possibly a little extreme, at times :)

I don’t remember where I came across Hooked, but I read a lot on (iPhone) Kindle. Everything from thinking fast and slow, decisive, so good they can’t ignore you, 4 hour work week, the one thing, etc etc, all oriented toward increasing knowledge, improving and understanding motivation and building better products or services, as well as understanding and improving my own personal performance in a wide range of areas.

I usually have about 5 books on the go at once! I have many highlighted paragraphs in Hooked - it’s really quite good.

Thanks! Daniel Kahneman is amazing... I just finished "Made to Stick" - in case you haven't read it yet. Thanks for your tips!
