Ask IH: Would you be interested in buying a domain name for someone who can't afford it but has a promising idea/profile?

Hi IH,

I believe there are a lot of makers out there who are just starting & lack funds to even buy a domain name.

Would you be interested in buying one for them if they are working on something you believe has potential to grow big or maybe just based on their profile/history?

P.S.: I'm not asking this for myself. I just want to know if people are willing to do this for others.

    Potential growth/profile/history doesn't guarantee success.

I would suggest get the product into market first, before spending any money one can't afford to lose.

One can launch on alternate extensions like .net, .org, .co, .io, .ai, etc.,. One can upgrade to .com once they have cash flow/funding.

Once domain is used its loses its value unless its a super solid domains like candy.com, hippo.com, sumo.com, etc.,.

I think it depends on the price of the domain name. With the shear volume of domains available, you can find a pretty darn good one relatively easily.

For example, I own several short and quality domains. Including: log.fm, boomerang.link, and other.link. Each I paid regular open market prices, sub $200 total.

Don't get me wrong, it does take some effort to find really good ones. Mostly just time and being willing to look through lists of domains. But I think the important thing is to be willing to change the name of your product/app, especially early on. Or taking a domain that is less clean (e.g. "theapp [.]com" or "useapp[.]com"

I've done it. I love thinking of great domain names. One time I read about an IH's idea, thought of a great domain name, bought it and gave it to them. They weren't lacking for funds. I just really enjoyed doing it.

So, yes, if someone needed the help I would not hesitate.

That's so kind of you. Could you share the domain name you gifted with buying price?

I've been trying to remember but I don't. However, I've redone logos, front pages, rewritten copy, and such. It's my opinion that this is how this community should work - help each other. It's fun, rewarding, and a great way to build relationships. It's good to be good.

Also if that domain name is/was put to good use, we all in IH could get a glimpse and conviction of getting into partnership/venture in future.

Many have domain names bought for developing, but project might have never been launhed. Myself being a domain name investor will get wider view for entering into ventures in future.

Hey, if you can dig your email or IH messages you can get it.

I would like to buy the domain if its a nice name if not in use now and not blacklisted

Sure, I agree, but finding a GREAT domain name is an art. And it can make a big difference in perceived authority.

Let's say as a part of an investment deal.
