I know its entirely dependent on the product being sold however I would like to get feedback what has and hasn't worked for your product? And how to decide if a product would be best suited for which pricing platform.
My web app SkillSyncer.com intelligently matches a user’s resume to a potential job posting and scores its similarity, scoring is comprised of multiple factors, including skills, keywords, work experiences, education, and word count. Ultimately, job seekers using SkillSyncer can tailor their resume towards a specific job posting and boost their chances of getting noticed.
You hit the nail on the head.
Think about when value is being delivered to the customer (is it ongoing, front-weighted, back-weighted...?) and when you are having to put in work/effort.
It's quite difficult to make a subscription model out of a product which, if it works, should make the customer not need your product anymore :)
That said, there are a lot of subscription weight-loss/quit-smoking apps out there ;)
Thanks for the feedback. You point out the biggest problem for my app, the better it works the less a user will need to use it. However another option is having the user pay up-front for a set period of time by making a one-time payment (non-subscription).
I love the pay-per-use aspect because I hate subscriptions myself, but its costing me too much in fees :(
Because implementation of using both would take me too much time I think when I gain a good base of Users I will send out an email poll asking for input on if they would pay for a subscription or a one-time-payment for unlimited use for a set period of time.
