At what point do you purchase a domain?

Very early on.
But only after I've verified that not only the domain, but also social media and other profiles are available.
For example, when building https://stacktape.com, I couldn't use 2 of my preferred domains, because a github org with the same name already existed, even tho the .com domain was still available.
Good point. I hadn't thought about existing social media profiles.
