What do Fifty Shades of Grey, Ben Franklin, and Kevin from The Office have in common?
Mostly nothing. Except the one thing that made them all wildly successful.
They all found a platform nobody was taking seriously and exploited it before the rest of the market caught on.
The attention arbitrage thesis is right but the window is shorter than people think. By the time you read about a channel being undervalued, it's usually already pricing in.
The practical version: the arbitrage isn't in the channel, it's in the format and depth within the channel. Every platform eventually optimizes for short-form dopamine hits because that's what drives engagement metrics. The arbitrage window that stays open longest: long, specific, genuinely useful comments or posts that most people won't write because they take 20 minutes instead of 2.
That's the bet I'm making with IH distribution right now for a Solopreneur Notion OS I'm validating. Most people write 2-sentence comments. I write 5-paragraph comments with specific frameworks and a genuine question at the end. The attention arbitrage is in the depth, not the platform.
The decay rate: IH will eventually get flooded with AI-generated 5-paragraph comments and the arbitrage closes. We're probably 18 months from that. But right now, genuine long-form engagement on IH converts 3x better than short acknowledgments.
What channel are you betting on that most people are currently underpricing?
Arriving early is the move - but it requires two things most solopreneurs don't have: (1) a system to monitor which channels are still underpriced before everyone else discovers them, and (2) a log of what you tried and when, so you can revisit channels at the right time.
I've been building a Notion OS for solopreneurs with a Decisions database for this: channel experiments logged with what was tried, what signal emerged, and why you stopped. Otherwise you forget that a specific approach had a 3-week window before it died, or that IH was working 6 months ago before saturation.
What's your process for spotting underpriced attention channels early?
