Attracting investors to a startup that's still validating

Having a great idea is only step one of a success story. You will need to know how to execute your plan. You will need a team. You will need benefactors. In order to begin, you have to go into detail and draw up proposals to attract investors. Here are a few methods of bringing in financial backing for your startup.

Online fundraising platforms

One of the most obvious choices would have to be the ever-popular Kickstarter or Indiegogo. If your idea involves an invention of some kind which is made for the masses, you might be able to crowdfund your idea.

This is not suitable for military-grade or back-end products that is not considered a consumable product or can be used by the masses. It is also not the platform for food and beverages. You will need a reliable internet provider to stay on top of things and marketing materials which appeal to the masses. You most definitely need to hire a marketing team in order to help you get off the ground.

Participate or join relevant events

Depending on your startup, you might want to consider joining a suitable community or business event that is relevant to your product or service. Of course, this would require a little bit of networking because ultimately you want to meet the right kind of people - the kind with deep pockets who are able to facilitate the growth of your business. Don’t go unprepared. Find out in advance who is going to be at the event and plan how best to propose your ideas to them. If there are pitching opportunities, take it. If there isn’t, you might want to network first and pitch later because you don’t want to come across as a hard-sell. Nobody likes to be pressured into doing anything, even if it’s something they would naturally do.

Social networking is your ally

We’re not talking about LinkedIn, although they can be a great way to build a professional network. No, we’re talking about building a brand presence on social media: Youtube, Tiktok, Instagram, Twitter, the works. Being on social media increases your chances of being discovered. You will need to put some work into it by creating content which is relevant to both your product and your niche market.

The best part about social media? It’s all free. You can throw in some advertising revenue to boost the amount of eyeballs looking at your page or content, but ultimately you want to use this to get the word out. DM some people who you feel are a good fit for you and your company and get them to endorse your products or better yet, see if they are interested in investing.

According to Forbes, you shouldn’t be afraid of creating content because there’s no such thing as too much when it comes to advertising. There is only “not enough” and if you want to guarantee that you gain the kind of attention your product deserves, you will have to create high quality content whether on your website or social media platforms.
