Audio chat for communities...as a widget?
Hey all!
There are a lot of audio apps out there these days. But most of them go on your phone and many are also iOS/Mac only.
I'm wondering if this exists:
- Clubhouse/Chalkapp-like voice chat
- Embeddable in an existing community forum as a widget
I feel like it has to exist but when I search I just get live chat/customer support.

Thanks for sharing :) Can you tell me more how this would work in a community context? I have 200+ members and would somehow want to integrate with their existing account.
Sorry for the late reply. It would work! We can also have Slack integration. Whenever your members want to talk to someone online, it will notify your channel.

I don't know of anything like that, but this is a really interesting idea. I like it. Does circle.so do something like that? Would you use it for spontaneous conversations our are you gonna use it to like schedule talks?
Circle is planning "group chat" (which I presume means text) but there is no ETA. It's "in development".
I'm looking for something spontaneous and ephemeral! So far, plenty of other tools exist for stuff that gets scheduled. Don't want to introduce external platforms where information can get spread and stored, like Slack or Discord.
If it really doesn't exist I might have to build it but I'd really rather not 😂

I feel like with all these audio trends, how can this not exist. Only more third-party platforms and fragmentation...
I don't have a specific use case in mind. It feels like a feature not a whole product though. Agree it's annoying to have lots of little 3rd parties you have to plug together (and then you need another 3rd party that helps you plug them all together!)
I'm not sure how you'd build it yourself, I haven't done that much real time development, but maybe this would be a good place to start: https://peerjs.com 🤷♂️
That's a great point that it feels like a feature. I posted in the Circle community to see if anyone is doing something like this, maybe one of the founders will chime in.
Great tip on PeerJS. I've used a fair bit of Firebase so I could of course always create my own text chat but I know nothing about audio/video.
Not planning to jump on this but it's a good reminder there are peer-to-peer options...
