Hello guys, my name is Yang, I would like to share my first project Carpbulletin
The project aims to generate recap bulletins for past game broadcast.(Example bulletin is shown in the picture above, more showcases are posted at Reddit community ApexRecap)
This idea came to my mind when I get busy in the personal life and start missing game broadcast from my loved streamers. Since the streamer doesn't upload the clips very often and it is quiet hard to locate my interest battles in the large inventory of all past broadcasts (5-9 hours broadcast is uploaded per day per streamer). Then I think I may just develop a tool to find the preferred moment by myself.
I started this project for my personal need and spent 533 hours on this project with another partner. Till now, zero benefit is got and few meaningful feedback is received. I don't know whether I should continue or just kill this project, the detailed development of this project is listed below. Any comment and suggestion are very welcomed.
The picture below shows the full development time my partner and I spent on this project.

Till now, Total 533 hours are spent by two persons in total. ~220 hours for core tech development, ~250 for posting result and maintenance. ~40 hours for marketing. Only few positive feedback is got, no profit is designed and earned so far.
The whole project can be divided into 3 phases. In phase 0, I came up with this idea and try some algorithm to validate the possibility. In phase 1, I developed the tool for the game Hearthstone and start marketing at Chinese platfoms(Douyu, Huya, Weibo, Yingdi). In phase 2, I extended the tool for another game Apex and start marketing at English platforms(YouTube, Twich, Twitter, Reddit). Detail of each phase is shown below.
The idea officially started with a Chinese name "小咖". An initial model is trained for game 'Hearthstone'. The model can only detect the start and stop time for each battle. The validity of the project is verified, while the project is hold due to my regular daily work.
2021-09 (~ 20h) Project restarted and planned to deliver two products. 'Game Analyzer API'(takes in video and output recap bulletins). 'Game Editor'(takes in video + recap bulletins and help users prepare game clips). The second product has never been developed.
2021-10&11 (~100h) Release the model and algorithm for game "hearthstone" with acceptable accuracy (> 90%) and processing speed (RTF 7-8x).
2021-11&12 (~200h) Create an automatic collection process to manage downloads, analyzing and generating reports for game "hearthstone" from two Chinese streaming platform(Douyu and Huya). In the meantime, reports are regularly posted on the Chinese broadcast platform "DouYu" and popular Chinese platform "NGA" and "YingDi".
In this phase, since "DouYu" found our posts are interesting, they created a separate channel for us to post the daily result. ~10 likes are received per day from daily post over all communities. Only a few positive and supportive comments are getting from all the posts. Around 150 dollars are spent on picture design for postings. I tried to send messages to both audience and streamers for feedbacks, no meaningful reply is got.
I started to think "Hearthstone" and Chinese platform may not be a good targeting market. Then I shift my work to "Apex" and English communities. Phase 2 started.
2022-1&2 (~120h) Release the model and algorithm for game "Apex" with acceptable accuracy (>90%) and processing speed (RTF 7-8x).
2022-2&3 (~40h 20h/person) Release Landing page with the new name Carpbulletin.
2022-3 (~50h) Modify existing job management system for posting Apex games . (Support Twitch and YouTube). YouTube analysis are commented under the corresponding video. Both YouTube and Twitch results are posted at a newly created Reddit community Apex Recap.
In this phase, I got a similar response compared to phase 1. A few likes are received from YouTube comments, only few positive replies are getting on YouTube. I tried to send message to connect to streamers from twitter, still no meaningful response is got. I also tried to post a promotion post on Apex community on Reddit, but I failed in the end. Because the post is always detected as a spam.
