Automating email alerts with RSS, Zapier and Mailchimp

Hey there,

I recently set up email alerts automation for jobsinhealthtech.com and I thought I would share with you how I did it :) This would be useful if you are running a jobs board or other business where you want to give regular updates/alerts to your users.

  • Firstly, all the new jobs added to our site are posted to a google sheet.
  • I set up a Zap that creates an RSS feed from this sheet's data. This is easy to do with Zapier's custom RSS feed builder. This creates an RSS feed of all our latest jobs.
  • Mailchimp has an option to send out RSS emails. I set up options for daily and weekly emails. When designing the email, you include the RSS tags (provided by mailchimp if you aren't familiar), and this will ensure only the relevant content you want is included in the email.
  • You can specify for segments of your audience to receive the RSS emails when you are setting it up. You can also add sections to your mailchimp forms for people to select from a drop down menu, and then link that to a segmentation. When linked, users can then segment themselves into the daily or weekly group, and they will then automatically either receive the daily or weekly RSS emails! Right now, I have all users on the weekly RSS, but plan on advertising the option for them to switch to daily emails if they would like.

Hope this is helpful, I'm really grateful for the amazing tools we have at our disposal that can save a lot of time!
