Back to the roots: creating Web products

Hi there!

I'm new here.

I'm a french Web developer for more than 15 years.
I've started my career creating my own Web studio with a Web designer and together -only the two of us- we made nice products at that time!
For example, a shopping engine dedicated to DVDs (yeah, back in the early days shopping engines and DVD were a thing!) and a automated and dedicated websites platform for restaurants (here in France we came way to soon on that market, leading to failure).
Also a very great product helping big non-profits organizations and foundations to collect online donations. This led to create a startup which still exists and has made it's own life since then, in Europe (even if I'm not onboard anymore).

But years after years, and without really willing for it, I mainly swichted from a product based daily work to a more classic clients projects approach (even if they often come to me with nice custom needs).

I'm still missing the product based approach.

And now there are some changes coming to my life and one the consequences are that I'm going to have a different work/life balance, thus allowing me to use part of my time working on side projects.

There are 3 of them!

One can find it's too much but they all have their characteristics (simple or more complex to create), their own stories and their reasons to be released. Moreover, I want to work on all of them! In fact, I already worked on two of them, and they're near ready for a first beta launch.

There's no disruption in sight, I've stopped dreaming long time ago. I'd rather think of pragmatic and useful services.

So while still working for clients, I'm going to create my own new one-man company (in France) and give me a full year to look how far it has come.

One of the purposes is to get back to products creation. It's something I really liked years ago and I still want to do it. I've gained technical and business experiences over time. So I think I can hope to reach success better than before (While defining success is quite personal, I will wrote about it later).

In any cases it will allow me to experiment, to live with my own products again, to build them step by step and to empower my skills for my own clients which come to me more and more with products ideas.

In the end I hope it will also allow me to earn some money. No useless ideas, no personal data exploitation but instead providing features to customers who will want to pay for it/them.

For some personal reasons, all that will start this summer. I will come here to share my thoughts, listen to advises (give some if I can), and announce products launches.

I think this community is the right place for that :)
