I always thought that going on a full gap year is something which is only affordable for a very small privileged group of people. I did it myself, spoke to a lot travellers and - surprisingly - it is more in reach than you might think.

However, this only worked out because we did extensive research on travel costs, made complex spreadsheets and tracked every dime we spent. This was a pain, I really dislike budgeting.
