Basic segmentation of user database. A must for every business

Hi all,

Everyone is so focused on acquiring users that often don't realize that is even more important to retain the users you already have.

I shared on my Twitter a thread with a basic segmentation that every small business should have. And from there move to something more complex. Here is the thread:

If you want to make the most of your user database, you need to segment it.Here's a basic segmentation based on their activity for B2C businesses:

  1. Registered: Users registered but not converted. They did not make their first purchase yet. Keep pushing them!

  2. New Users: User who made their first purchase on the last 15 days but they did not make any other purchase yet. Only one day of activity.

  3. Active users: Users with more than 1 purchase in the last 30 days.
Keep them active! Push push push!

  4. Inactive users: Users who did not made any purchase on the last 30 days.
I told you to keep them active!

  5. Reactivated users: Users who were Inactive/churned but they made a purchase during the last 15 days.
Good job! Now you what to do, keep pushing!

  6. Churned users: Users who did not make any purchases during the last 3 months.
That's the cemetery of users. A lot of work here.

Of course this is not a definitive segmentation, it should have more statuses, but it's a good point to start.

Keep in mind that these are LIVE statuses, users transition from one to another, and your main objective is keep them on the ACTIVE.
