Be Brutal. Am I doing this shit right?

I wonder if my title's a bit too dramatic but it's how I feel. I'm Moyi, I started a small design studio called Anomaly: www.byanomaly.co.

I mainly want feedback on our website but let me give some context. By now we're probably all aware of Brett's DesignJoy success. If you don't know about it, here you go: designjoy.co.

I love how he productized design there, brilliant! I'm 'partly' inspired by it because while we have a similar subscription pricing tier, we also have a more traditional 'project' based pricing model as well.

Is it because I'm scared to go all the way on 'productizing' myself and the rest of the brand? Perhaps, but I think I like the idea of being able to take a project and dedicate a sprint to it involving myself and our staff on solving one client's problem where they truly have our attention.

So with that goal in mind, talk to me. Does the website make that clear? Would you even hire us for your own design needs? Let it rip!

    • "We build experiences for brands looking for that extra bit more."
A pretty long title that doesn't say much. I have no idea what you offer, it can be shortened to: "Looking for that extra bit more?"
    • "Product design, brand design, no-code development and everything in between"
      What is everything in between?

Design is not really my expert but the UI is looks good and professional IMO.
    Good luck!

I love the point about the title, I'll reword that. And as for the description you're right, it doesn't even speak a lot on creative development and our interaction design which is a core offering. Thanks man

very straight-to-the-point and simple site, it is awesome, from a branding perspective, wouldn't it be great to show the team behind the work, like somewhere, I think that makes it more likely at least for me to want the work with you. The truth is design studios are everywhere, and what distinguishes them isn't quality of service anymore, it's not the extra attention to detail or skill. Those could be in some cases, but more importantly, it's the why? The story behind what you do and why do it, who are you trying to serve and exactly, I think highlighting that a lot more would make you more of a magnet.

Hmm, the story behind what we do. Yeah I'm gonna rework that entire About page. This is excellent feedback. Been struggling internally about niching and specializing our services to a particular market

Hey, really cool site. I think there's a few things you can do to add an additional level of professionalism to it(imo):

    1. Your carousel text in your hero section on the landing page cuts off when it arrives at the left-most margin. It also loads independently of other elements in the hero section, so instead of viewing your CTA text first, my eye is drawn to the carousel text. Maybe put a 1.5 sec load delay on it so that it comes up after the hero copy.

    2. Seeing a more in-depth analysis of your previous work would let me more effectively gauge your design ability (as a client). The images are quite small, especially on mobile, and I can't click into them to learn or see more. If you can, show more than the interface; include metrics like conversion rate improvement, increased page hits, client MRR increases directly tied to website traffic, etc.

    3. Some of the body text seems a little small on larger desktop breakpoints. Eg. The pricing disclaimer in the small black box is almost unreadable on my widescreen monitor.

    4. Maybe rethink some of the copy a bit. In your "Why Us" section you have some copy that says, "we don't hate you." I know it's supposed to come across as quirky and tongue-in-cheek, but it sounds oddly passive aggressive when I read it out. I know that's not your intention, but a client might not, and it's best to avoid even the slight chance that your potential clients will misunderstand you.

As for your 2nd point, those works are samples, small free designs done for proposals that weren't picked up. They weren't implemented so unfortunately we don't have that data

Leaf this is some quality feedback, your point about the carousel drawing attention especially. I do need to add more detail to the project images, I'd also make them clickable.

As for point 3, yeah I was trying to get it out fast so the text isn't responsive yet, I'll set it up using Wizardry's webflow plugin and that should fix that.

Point 4, you're right, the wording is risky and might not always pay off.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated

Amazing website! I have a few pieces of feedback if you want:

    • Is the horizontal scrolling text supposed to appear above the fold on mobile or after scroll? On my Android, only the top half of the text is visible on load so I'm assuming you want it either totally visible or only visible on scroll.
    • Partially into scrolling through the list of projects there's a white flash on background transition, I think, not sure if that is meant to be there, but it didn't feel necessary.
    • Projects images having different widths on mobile feels a little inconsistent, consider having project images all full with.

The website is beautiful - logo and typography are perfect. Good job 👌

Edit: there's a margin on the left side of the horizontal scrolling text on mobile but not the right side, just FYI

      • Yes it's meant to appear above the fold, I'll fix that thank you!

      • I see, the white flash is distracting. Noted

      • I'll experiment with full width images. Thanks a lot man, much appreciated.

Also the margin on the left of the scrolling text was intentional.

      Loving the feedback
