Be Kind to One Another

I drew this for myself this morning as a reminder to be kind to people this week, especially because there's a big chance that I simply do not have all the information that I need to really know about them, their situation, and their experiences to rush to any snap judgment or to be impatient.

It's exciting to meet new people! It's fun to get to know folks in deeper and deeper ways. It's also important to realize that, as we dig in, we're going to find things about those people that we may not necessarily love (or even like).

That's okay. That's fine. More time may likely be needed on both sides of the table so that things can "unfold" naturally and without undue pressure (and pain).

I know that I like to be treated that way! I'm sure you're the same.

Let's be overwhelmingly kind to one another in 2020!

Great reminder @8bit. Your drawing really puts it into perspective. There is so much we don't know about people's past.

One of my spiritual mentor has a teaching:

There are so many choices we'll face each day. Try your best to "choose kind".

This reminds me of the This Is Water speech by David Foster Wallace:

“ In this traffic, all these vehicles stuck and idling in my way: It’s not impossible that some of these people in SUVs have been in horrible auto accidents in the past and now find driving so traumatic that their therapist has all but ordered them to get a huge, heavy SUV so they can feel safe enough to drive; or that the Hummer that just cut me off is maybe being driven by a father whose little child is hurt or sick in the seat next to him, and he’s trying to rush to the hospital, and he’s in a way bigger, more legitimate hurry than I am — it is actually I who am in his way.”

An enemy is someone whose story you do not know.

that's a negative read, right? i mean... i don't want to think of everyone that i don't know as my enemy... right? 🤔

      1. 2

I think what they mean is if you think of someone as your enemy, then it's likely that you just don't know their story :)

lol. i'm so dense sometimes! 🤦🏻‍♂️

      2. 2

I mean, I think of you as my enemy... that's not how you see me? ;)
