Hi all! Looking for some advice and feedback, pretty please...
My co-founders and I are prepping to launch Ditto in August. We're revisiting the website and struggling a bit with messaging. (Ditto is built for freelancers, and I know there are a lot of those here, so hoping you can help us!)
Specifically, we're trying to decide what kind of message to put up in the hero spot at the top of the website. We're torn between:
something catchy/surprising - for example: “If you’re still invoicing net 30, signing stuffy contracts, and emailing W9s, YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG.”
something that’s more about our bigger mission and vision — for example: “Empowered Independents. Enlightened Clients."
something that’s more descriptive and “on the nose” — for example: "Protected Payments for Project-Based Work”
What do you think? Which of these directions would make you want to keep scrolling down the page to learn more?
Unsolicited advice and/or copy suggestions are very welcome! We are sadly unable to afford a copywriter OR a designer right now, so we know how much better all of this COULD be but we're just doing the best we can with what we got.
How about something short, catchy, AND descriptive like "Incredible Intuitive Invoicing" - I like saying alliterations like that over and over again!
PS: You have a CSS error on your site currently, all the "Sign up" buttons are set to overflow: scroll, which gives them scrollbars on Chrome for me.
Ha - I'm a total sucker for alliteration, too.
We've played around a lot with "Prompt, Predictable Payments" or "Prompt, protected payments." -- But I do like your suggestion.
Thank you so much for calling out the CSS error. It doesn't appear that way to me, and I had no idea that was happening. (This is what happens when non-technical people figure they can get in there and just try to do the best they can, and if it looks ok to them, surely it looks ok everywhere else, too... fortunately part of the "website makeover" we're about to embark on involves getting some help with dev, too, though I'm definitely going to at least try to fix that button issue myself!)
One little tip that @julian gives is to try testing your headlines in small ads. It doesn’t have to be too expensive and you don’t need existing traffic to see if it works.
I also like the current message, but it does feel a bit generic. The next line “first payment platform” feels like it doesn’t really answer how ditto doesn’t suck.
Thanks! I actually just changed the current message (it used to be even LESS clear). But I like the idea of testing.

Thanks! I do like the idea of testing -- figured I'd start with more of an informal "ask around" approach, given that we don't have much traffic. But hoping to change that soon :)
