bearblogr - A static site blogging tool for Bear
bearblogr is a tool that converts the popular Bear writing app into a CMS for your static blog or website.
How it works
bearblogr parses special code blocks in your Bear note that contains your blog’s configuration.
It then exports a markdown file with your note’s content compatible with most static site generators. It can then either be copied locally (for drafting/previewing), or committed to a remote Git repo (for publishing).
Quick Start Guide
- Download and install bearblogr
- Write a blog post as you normally would
- Add in the special bearblogr code blocks
- When ready to publish, copy the Bear note ID to your clipboard ( SHIFT + ALT + CMD + i )
- Switch to bearblogr and click (M)arkdown to export/re-generate your blog post
- If everything looks good, click (G)it to publish your post to your blog, or tap ( C ) to copy it to your local repo.

An interesting idea, I’ll keep an eye on this. I ended up writing my own app for making/formatting my GatsbyJS based posts (it’s not available to anyone). So I’m always happy to see more tools like this in the flow.

the point is, you could take this much, much farther. at the height of this product's life, it was making > $30k per month in profit, after apple's cut!

Ive never made even anything remotely close to $30k/mo for anything I’ve developed for the public, and I’ve been trying to hustle as an independent dev for the past few years (its been a journey for sure). Trial by fire I suppose.
Truth be told, I really did create this app to scratch my own itch, but you’ve definitely given me a lot to think about.
I’ve got probably a billion questions I’d like to ask you, but I’ll just stick with one.
When you say “take it much farther”, what exactly do you mean?
i mean... be serious with it.
attack this small, simple, desktop native app as if this is the best thing ever created. believe it. use it. build a community around it. they will support you (possibly forever).
believe that it could be so much more than just a writing tool.
some of my community around this project still use the app today... even after many years of being pulled from the store.
sometimes, i think that i should have kept it alive and really made a bigger business around it, but, whatever.

I've been caught in cycles of creating small MVPs/projects that never seem to get enough traction/attention. This eventually leads to me losing confidence in them, despite the fact that I might use them myself.
I'm not great at promoting or talking about what I'm building. I usually only post when I'm ready to release something 🤦 So community building is something I need to improve upon...
In any case, I'll keep working on my process and hopefully I'll be able to at least break even with this project...would be nice to justify the $99 Apple Dev account.
PS. Just wanted to mention that I love your blog/content and can relate. I'm about your age, also an engineer, met my wife in the bay, got married at SF city hall, and used to bboy back in 99-03 my joints didn't hurt 🤸♂️ 🤕
