Ask IH: Need ideas to automate a process.

Ask IH: Need ideas to automate a process.

For a project of mine, I maintain a growing list of mobile numbers belonging to blue collared workers. (largely, not owners of smartphones and only a few are SMS savvy)

I need their very basic information viz. name, location, and key skill.

I have tried the IVR route and failed. Currently, I am calling manually, which is not really feasible. Very time-consuming.

Any ideas on how I can automate this process?

https://www.twilio.com mentioned already is okay - Their offering would cover the calls and sms - you’d need to integrate with the api and have a simple db with the numbers etc from experience the quality of the calls is less than desirable (in the uk at least) - worth a look

IVR is not a problem for me. I collect the numbers using IVR. Maintaining the other basic information with the number is the problem here.

Find someone to do the calling on upwork.com , and paying for Skype credit.

I have done that. Not on upwork though. The quality of work was not that great. Bad work spoils the brand image. Too much on stake for that risk. :(

I don't know of anything existing that could help you, but is building your own out of the question?

Just a quick search came up with this:

    https://www.twilio.com/solutions/ivr

I imagine you could process the numbers and use twilio to start a call and collect answers for each sequentially or in parallel.

Maybe you have thought of this already. It's certainly not a small amount of work but maybe it's an opportunity in itself.

As mentioned, I have used IVR. I guess you are talking about speech recognition IVR, where the response is not keypress but actual speech.

It is a good amount of work. Maybe I should first just try recording responses, see how clearly the ASR picks it. Then decide the next course of action.

      Let's see. Should be fun.

@shree Message me if you need any help with the project. I work with Twilio a lot and would love to assist a fellow IHer :)

Thanks a lot. I will be using the same local service, however for this.
