Virgin wanted an eighteen-month agreement and a fee for a box I would never actually own. That was the final straw. 16 months on, the whole house runs on one IPTV service and a Firestick, and I have not missed a single thing I really watched.

All Sports, One Subscription
After 5 months and 8 providers, this is what I no longer bend on.
It holds at peak times, not just on quiet afternoons.
The channels you genuinely watch, live and in HD — not twenty thousand dead entries.
Two or three simultaneous streams, so the household is not fighting over one.
A programme guide that matches reality. Check it against three channels; if the guide is wrong, the provider does not control the feed it is selling you.
Support that answers a real technical question within the hour.
One thing: how many servers they run, and whether you can switch between them yourself inside the app.
A provider with several will move you off a jammed route at peak time. A provider with one will calmly explain that the problem is at your end. Ask before paying: how many servers, where they sit, and whether you can change yours. A pause on any of the three is your answer.
Everything else — channel counts, 4K badges, lifetime deals — is background noise next to that.
WOULD I GO BACK TO SKY?
No — and not for the reason you would expect. The money matters, but what I actually notice is having no contract, no equipment fee and no retention call in my future.
What I gave up: a physical box and a number to shout at. What I got back: roughly £80 a month and a setup the whole house can use at once.
What I would do again: pay monthly for the first two months before committing.
Can I cancel anytime or am I tied in?
The services worth using are month-to-month with no contract, so you can walk away whenever. That is why I pay monthly for the first two months before even considering an annual plan.
What broadband speed do I need for a smooth stream?
Around 25 Mbps handles HD comfortably, and 50 Mbps or more is plenty for 4K on a couple of screens. As above, a steady line beats a fast but uneven one — most freezing is the server, not your speed.
Can I watch live football without a Sky or TNT contract?
Yes. A solid IPTV service carries the football live and in HD, with no eighteen-month agreement and no equipment fee — which is exactly why I cancelled Sky.
The service that finally replaced Sky for me is Iptvcast. No contract, no equipment fee, cancel whenever. Channel list, pricing and device guides are at https://iptvcast.shop — about three minutes to get going.
