Four people, four different programmes, one house. That is the real requirement nobody puts on a pricing page. Most IPTV service plans quietly allow one stream, and you only find out when the second telly kills the first. I tested 10 of them with the whole family watching at once.

WHAT ACTUALLY MAKES A GOOD IPTV service

After 5 months and 8 providers, this is what I no longer compromise on.

  1. It holds at peak times, not just on quiet afternoons.

  2. The channels you genuinely watch, live and in HD — not twenty thousand dead entries.

  3. Two or three simultaneous streams, so the household is not fighting over one.

  4. A programme guide that matches reality. Check it against three channels; if the guide is wrong, the provider does not control the feed it is selling you.

  5. Support that answers a real technical question within the hour.

WHAT YOU ARE ACTUALLY REPLACING

Write down what you pay now — not what you think you pay, what actually leaves your account.

For most households I talk to it is a Sky Ireland or Virgin Media bill somewhere north of €120, a sport add-on, Premier Sports for the rugby, a streaming service that has put its price up twice, and one forgotten subscription. The TV licence is a separate conversation; this is everything on top of it.

Then write down what you genuinely watched last month. Between RTÉ Player, the Saorview channels and a handful of sport, almost nobody needs twenty thousand channels. The honest answer is usually eight to fifteen, and that gap between what you pay for and what you watch is the whole argument.

MY VERDICT AFTER 22 MONTHS WITH A FULL HOUSE

Three screens at once, every evening, no rows. That is the benchmark here and it is the one most services quietly fail.

What made the difference: simultaneous streams, and a guide the kids can find their way around without asking me.

What made none: the channel count. We use about a dozen.

With three screens running most evenings, Northpeaktv is the only one that never made us choose. Details, simultaneous-stream limits and pricing are at https://northpeaktv.com, and there is a trial before you commit.
