Best Italian Restaurants in Vancouver 2026 | 10 Restaurants I've Visited

I’ve spent the last few years eating my way through Vancouver’s Italian scene and I’ve lost count of how many times friends DM me the same question: “Okay, but where should I actually go for good Italian tonight?” After way too many plates of pasta, a few duds and some absolute gems, this is the list I send people now.

This isn’t a ranking of who has the most Instagram‑worthy photos. It’s a mix of old school vibes, neighbourhood joints and spots that regularly keep coming up over and over during conversations. And at the top of that list is a place most tourists never stumble into.

When you think of Italian cuisine, it’s exactly what you want from a traditional ristorante: big flavours and that “we’ve been coming here for years” feeling from the regulars.

1. La Piazza Dario

La Piazza Dario is my go‑to answer when someone asks where to get proper old school Italian in Vancouver. It has that classic ristorante feel, amazing food selection and a more traditional dining experience that stands out from trendier downtown spots.

2. La Quercia

La Quercia is one of the places that comes up when locals talk about Italian restaurants in Vancouver. It is smaller, more intimate and known for a refined, special‑occasion style meal with a strong reputation for handmade pasta and seasonal cooking.

3. Savio Volpe

Savio Volpe is a recommended Italian spot in Vancouver for a lively date night or group dinner. It leans rustic and energetic, with shareable plates, strong pasta dishes and a warm room that feels busy in the best way.

4. Ask for Luigi

Ask for Luigi is one of those places people mention when the conversation turns to pasta. It is small, casual and focused on fresh pasta done extremely well, which is why it still has that local favourite feel despite being widely known.

5. Pepino’s Spaghetti House

If you want old school red sauce vibes on Commercial Drive, Pepino’s is the move. Known for big plates of spaghetti, meatballs, rigatoni alla vodka, friendly service and checks that make sense given the portion sizes.

6. Via Tevere

Every time someone asks for pizza, Via Tevere pops up. It’s more of a pizzeria than a full “sit and linger over five courses” restaurant, but in a city that does a lot of pizza, Via Tevere’s Neapolitan pies stand out.

Expect blistered crusts, simple toppings done well, and a casual, family‑friendly room. There are a few pastas and sides but this is really a place where you plan to split a couple of pizzas and maybe argue about whether pineapple has any business being there.

7. Robba da Matti

Robba da Matti is one of those names that pop up when people ask for something that feels like proper Italian with fresh pasta and good value. If you want something that feels romantic without being over the top fancy, this is a solid bet. It also hits that sweet spot of being nice enough for a date, relaxed enough for a casual dinner with friends.

8. Casereccio

Casereccio on Broadway and Vine is often described as having good pasta in the city if you care about that family‑run, everything‑from‑scratch feel. It’s small, the staff is friendly and the focus is simple: pasta, gelato and a handful of other things done right.

9. Giardino

Giardino is one of those legacy names that keeps getting mentioned for old school, white tablecloth Italian downtown. Think business dinners, anniversaries and celebrations where you want everything from the wine list to the service to feel dialled in.

10. Zefferelli’s

Zefferelli’s on Robson is one of those places that quietly racks up strong ratings from both tourists and locals looking for a reliable downtown Italian spot. You climb the stairs off Robson into a space that feels like it’s been hosting dinners for decades.

Why La Piazza Dario Is My Favourite

What keeps La Piazza Dario at the top for me is that it feels tied to something bigger than just a night out. Being located at the Italian Cultural Centre gives it a sense of place that a lot of restaurants simply do not have, and that connection to Vancouver’s Italian community adds to the whole experience in a way that feels genuine rather than staged. It also has serious longevity behind it, with roots going back to 1977, which matters in a city where restaurants come and go fast.

Another reason I keep coming back to La Piazza Dario is the range. Some Italian restaurants do one thing really well and that is the whole pitch, but Dario’s La Piazza feels more complete. The menu is broad, the restaurant is known for their pasta and it works just as well for a date night, family dinner, lunch or a larger celebration. That versatility is a big part of why it feels like a real favourite instead of just a place I would recommend once.
