Best marketing courses for Indie Hackers?

What are the best marketing courses / resources that are especially helpful for indie hackers?

Reposting a comment I wrote a year ago to this question. Not a course. But might help.

I was in your shoes this time two years back. Started reading a lot. Here's some of the best stuff I found:

    Ahrefs YouTube - SEO goldmine
Growth Design - Comic book style product tips
Everyone Hates Marketers - Marketing podcast. Refreshingly blunt
Zero to Marketing - Short case studies about how to grow startups

I got so into it that I set up my own thing — Marketing Examples — where I share short, sweet, real world examples of great marketing. Poured years into it. Genuinely think it will help. All free.

And finally to quote Nassim Taleb — No amount of reading is a substitute for executing. The map is not the terrain.

I second this, the best is to go and run experiments:

      • Write that reddit post
      • Post it on Facebook group
      • Send a cold email
      • Spend $50 on Google ads
      • Tell your friend about it
      • Create a video on youtube
      • Run a user research for a voucher
      • Ask a question on Telegram group

There are really no silver bullets, the entire life is just testing & experimentation, not only for products.

I found that DigitalMarketer by Ryan Deiss has some awesome courses. They cover the overall psychology of marketing and how to get started selling, etc.

I’ve come across your site in the past and downloaded your guide on acquisition channels: https://www.zerotousers.com for anyone interested!

      Thanks for the recommendation!

I'd recommend checking out https://www.demandcurve.com/resources. They have in-depth, time-tested framework playbooks on how to run marketing.

    Hey there,

I created 2 Notion templates to help makers with marketing:

    • Userbooster - Helps you to get your first users and leverage 20+ acquisition channels
    • Twitter Playbook - Learn to grow your Twitter audience

I'm working on something that can be useful. Can't claim to be the best (yet), but I do have a unique perspective.

It's not a marketing course exactly, but a method to sell your product before you build it (or after only building a little), so you end up building something people want to buy.

Every marketing technique (ada, SEO, content, social) is only as effective as your product market fit, and finding PMF as early as possible is exactly the point of the course.

Ryan Kulp's growth marketing course. I think it's called Million Dollar Marketer -- very practical. Did it ages ago and still use some of the stuff today.

This one by ahref's on SEO is excellent and free. It doesn't matter if you know nothing about SEO. By the end of this course, you’ll likely understand how to apply the basics of SEO like keyword research, on-page SEO, and link building to rank higher in search engines.

I was about to post that ahrefs one too. Great course. I hate to say it, but Google's course is pretty good too and it's highly relevant as Google pretty much owns the public info space:

Hey check out mentordial.com to book a call with a mentor. Much more effective than a course.

Hey @dhamaniasad check my website Entrepreneur List which is curated database of best courses and learning resources for startup founders, indie hackers, entrepreneurs.

I am extremely interested in creating something like this for the indie hackers. When you "shop for" a marketing course / resource for indie hackers, what do you look for, exactly?

    1. 1

I am looking for something that is aimed at developers, which will give me 1> a high level overview of how the marketing system works. Like I know in dev there's servers and databases and frontends backends CDNs domains and how all these components fit together. I want a birds eye view of the marketing world, and common terminologies as well. Help with determining the best channel for my project. 2> I want a no-fluff step-by-step guide for the top channels. I'd rather have somewhat incomplete information provided than too much padding which I've found to be an issue with most marketing courses. 3> Aimed at indie hackers without marketing departments, who don't have a lot of time they can invest into marketing.

I have interviewed dozens of indie makers and summarized their building methods in this step by step guide. It follows the "Audience First Approach" which is a way to do marketing from the start.
