Totally depends on your product, market and who exactly your audience is.

I have indeed. I think that's maybe one of the best channels to reach potential users.
It does feel a bit spammy though, would you recommend a tweet, DM or something else?
PS: Unfortunately you can only search for tweets in the last 7 days with the free version of the API. May need to go through a review process for the paid version too!

tweet or DM is fine, test out both and see what people think.
You had the same problem as them and did something to solve it, and now you're sharing it. Not spammy at all, IMO.
Some people will be annoyed, there are always those people. Nothing would ever get done if we lived by their rules.
Reddit is probably another good source for users who were upset by losing inbox. Have you tried there?

I have posted on Reddit quite a bit, and continue to, in the various subreddits I see posts about people wishing GoogleInbox didn't shut down :)

I find that a lot of my users exist on Twitter/Hacker News!
I'm not sure many actually use Instagram.
