Best methods for gaining new clients?

Hi All,

What methods have you used to gain new clients? Currently, all my clients (I'm an marketing consultant/ads specialist) come from referrals, I've tried outreach messaging on Linkedin with little success, though I'm not too surprised as I seem to get at least 4 sales messages a week which has become natural for me to ignore.

Thanks!

I'd add to the list join local communities where your would be customers are. For some of the work I do, a huge source of business has been incubators, coworking spaces (now digitized but still thriving), and local entrepreneur focused groups.

Once you're in you can build relationships and can be top of mind when people have needs. So are there any trade orgs, business owner groups, slacks, online communities where your target hang out?

The best answer is there is no best method.

There are variables. I'll share an example for my product https://storycreatorapp.com. I launched on Hacker News and had a lot of traffic, but very little conversions to paid users.

Why is this? Because the source of traffic was wrong. I got a bunch of advice on techinical aspects, and questions around my tech stack. No paying customers though.

If I were to launch a useful developer related tool, then the likeliness of conversion increases. Since my target audience is digital creators -- more artsy types. I needed to find a different channel.

So I launched on Product Hunt https://www.producthunt.com/posts/story-creator-2 and did $4k in sales.

Why is this? Because this channel had people that had a real use for the product.

Could I have made sales on Hacker News? Yes, if I had a different product. Was it worth it to post on there? Yes, because you need to test.

The best answer I can give you is test as much as you can for the next 3-6 months. Work towards building good reputation a long the way and try to kill two birds with one stone if possible.

    Cheers

    1. Cold emailing works if you do it the right way.

    2. Add plenty of people in your TG on LinkedIn. Do not reach out to them with your offering. Instead, regularly post insightful content on the platform. LinkedIn has better engagement than other platforms. And your connections (and their connections who are in the same industry) are likely to see your posts and this could build an inbound stream.
