Best places to promote our affiliate program?

Hey IH,

We've just launched our affiliate program and want to get the word out. Any recommendations on where to post?

We're offering 30% of sales to affiliate partners (for an info product).

Thanks in advance!

p.s if anyone here is interested hit my up on jaisal@submitjuice.com for more info :)

Maybe not the answer you're looking for, but your best affiliates are your current customers.

NOTHING converts better than, "I personally use this product and it changed my life."

If your current affiliates are not converting, then teach them how by training them. Share which language works for you, which of your landing pages and channels convert best, etc.

That said, as you mention you have an info product -- IMO info products are notorious for being low quality and getting pushed by affiliates for the big commissions. I think you will need to combat that perception with a lot of social proof on your site.

Ideally you can find people who've previously shared happy reviews of your product online without being incentivized by the commissions and reach out to them. (Edit: Concretely, you could do this with Twitter search or search for your URL wherever your target customers hang out)

Current customers can be good advocates but there are bloggers, YouTubers, and social media influencers who make a living by promoting products and getting commissions. They have a healthy loyal audience and they can influence their audience's buying decisions.

I am not sure customers make a good promoter because most of them are busy with their life and work. Also, many of them have few fans/families/audience to refer

I know, I literally run a SaaS that does analytics for affiliates :)

The kind of affiliates who will promote stuff they don’t use quickly build up a bad reputation and taint the image of the product. Hence the mindset of just “get affiliates” could be bad for the brand, if he cares about that.

That said we don’t know what the product is or what kind of customers he has, so it’s hard to get more concrete. But surely he should have at least a few customers who aren’t totally anonymous on the internet.

I see where you are coming from.

Just like every other marketing channel, running and managing affiliates requires skills and that's why Affiliate Program Manager exists as a job role.

Many business owners jump into an affiliate by just signing up to an affiliate tracking tool and expecting magic to happen.

I think he should hire an affiliate manager that will help him recruit, train, manage, and ban bad actors

Affiliate managers are the ones that can identify qualified and top-publishers that will promote the product in an ethical way. Training is also key in running a successful affiliate program.

Better still he can hire an agency such as Partner Centric or Acceleration Partners.

Yeah totally. I'd agree with you about all of that, I'm just not imagining someone on IH asking this question would have the budget to work with an agency like that.

That's why I'm suggesting he start by teaching his most prominent customers about what's already working for his business -- just like partner managers do at a typical affiliate program :)
