I use copyhackers' training to support me in research activities. Generally, it's what you'd expect - get out there and talk to people, mine reviews of similar products, and see if you can land some 1-on-1 interviews (recording them is a great way to get notes).
One of the most powerful questions I've heard is asking 'what brought you to [X] today'. It's a simple question you can ask via an after-purchase survey, but the results are always valuable.
Thanks! One-on-one is so useful if you can get people to talk to you. The best advice I've ever had was to listen out for when they get either excited or frustrated when talking about something. So simple but made such a difference for me!
