Best strategy for warming up a new email account for cold email campaigns?

I'm just starting up cold email outreach again for my agency, and have been advised by other agency owners that most of the automated account warm-up softwares out there are rubbish.

Other than sending a few emails daily to my internal team and also their personal emails, and getting them to reply, is there anything else I can do to warm up the account for scaled up outreach?
