Best way to grow an API? (file conversion)
As part of another product we required a file conversion solution - so for example .doc to pdf, pdf to png including specifying a page or image size as well as several other formats. The solutions out there are either quite expensive or a bit clunky so we built our own.
It dawned on us that this might be a worth selling as an API - what do you think? How would you go about marketing this?
We've had similar experience with Seodity.
We needed to create website screenshots as part of our app, so we thought why don't create another product just for this functionality. So we created app, api, landing page (you can see it here: https://url2img.co/ - doesn't work though, api is disabled).
Maybe it would work, maybe not - I don't know. Ultimately it was just distraction from our main product.
I'd say - if you have resources to pull it off, without sacrificing your main product - go for it. Otherwise I'd stick to main product, make it better instead of slicing your time between two projects.

Yeah I think we can do it tbh. Just need to work out how to get it out there and validate whether there is a market.
Actually from time to time I have an idea to turn some functionality into SaaS :P
