I am starting a new project and want to collect emails from a landing page. How would you implement this the fastest way?
I am looking at mailchimp, but the default option is too expensive ($99) for a custom domain.
At this price point I would build it on my own with some simple django app
For hosted check out landen.co or if you want React code then divjoy.com will give you a React landing page + serverless function that pushes emails into Mailchimp.
Oh my, landen looks amazing!
$29/mo seems steep, but I can already see it paying off with the amount of stuff I wouldn't have to worry about.
Will play with divjoy as well. Thanks @Gabe 🔥
Carrd.co allows you to have a form that just sends you an email with the person's email. Definitely the fastest way.
If you end up collecting a lot of emails then you can integrate it pretty easily with EmailOctopus.
Both are free to get started with, and scale nicely in terms of price.
I just set this up yesterday for premiumjs.com.
Big fan of carrd.co and it was easy to integrate with EmailOctopus. Note that if you’re just signing up with EmailOctopus that they have a review of new accounts so it can take a day or so before you can actually send emails (you can start collecting immediately tho).
The whole setup looks like $12/yr for a domain on Google domains, $20/yr for a bunch of sites on carrd and then free tier of EmailOctopus.
Since you can do lots of landing pages for the $20/yr Tier in carrd, it works out to a little more than the domain price to spin up a pretty nice landing page.
Nice, this is exactly what I was looking for!
It looks like carrd.co is currently down tho 🤦🏻♂️
carrd.co + email service of your choice. Most offer free tier to get going.
Carrd is very inexpensive for using a custom domain.
So many carrd.co recommendations yet it is down for me today 🤦🏻♂️ thanks!
Shopify has a 90-day trial. You can use them as a landing page: https://www.shopify.com/?ref=ellym
It's what I'm doing for NomadLandlord.com
Costs nothing. The emails are stored in the Shopify admin for easy export.
True hack! Would not expect this one to show up
This one is a bit controversial: https://hey.com
But I like the personal touch of just letting people send an email themselves. Surely the leads will be of high quality, and very fast to implement.
For Open Startup List I'm using netlify, it has forms I use to collect emails and for contact form. Pretty straightforward and easy to use.
You could use Netlify + Netlify Forms. I use that combo for all my landing pages. The Forms add-on is free until you hit 100 submissions/mo.
Agreed -- this is what I did. You can even set it up to notify you on form submission. Here's mine: https://readme.money/posts.html#pss
Been really happy with netlify. It's free to host on a super-fast CDN, 100 form submissions/mo for free
...By the way, be careful if you are going to take the domain directly from the Mailchimp, there are some questions: https://www.reddit.com/r/ICANN/comments/gdpjg3/beware_mailchimp_is_registering_domains_and/
Thanks! I liked their solution because the intergration with audiences etc, but wouldn't consider them for buying a domain
use Formspark if you have your own frontend and want to just set your form‘s action attribute
Lots of great answers in the comments. I would so recommend (if it makes sense for your product or market) to implement a form so you can learn more about who is signing up which helps with learning more about the target market you're serving. That's what we're doing at sommahq.com.
Here's an interesting article about putting together such a form: https://producthabits.com/early-access-surveys/
Thank you everybody! I. have. so. much. data.
Will compile this post and will let you know what option I have gone with!
If you're using netlify, they have forms: https://www.netlify.com/products/forms/
Interesting! Potentially free for small traffic
I have not had a chance to try it but I signed up for this few days back: https://www.waitlistr.com/
webflow!
If you want to have a blog then substack.com looks like a great option. It is free, has a landing page, and allows you to charge for content when ready.
For me, I just launch a server instance and put up a PHP site. If you can make a simple website then AWS or MS Azure offers some free choices.
I'm working on something that (fingers crossed) might be able to help.
We're trying to help makers like you to affordably build a waitlist as you build your product.
I just sent you an email, so be on the lookout. :)
