Hi everyone,
We are proud to launch our open beta for Krakeno.com !
Every new users have a one week free trial plan with 15 downloads per day and the first 10 beta users will get a lifetime 50% discount (ONLY 7 left).
Krakeno is a SaaS (=Software as a Service) we built with a high concern for its environmental impact.
Its core functionality "Download Youtube playlists", is also our way to say stop to our absurd data consumption while watching repeatedly the same content.
As you all know hosting your applications means renting servers; which can be powered by fossil fuel-based energy, carbon compensated one, or renewable energy only.
At Krakeno we choose the later, powering our server with 100% non-carbonated renewable energy.
We also pledge to plant multiple 🌲 per subscription to compensate the hidden costs (network communications, 3rd party integration...).
Most of the youtube downloaders you can find online are based on the open source software youtube-dl.
While it is really convenient to download videos/audios on your own machine, it is highly inefficient in the long run and has become quite a bloated software (high CPU/energy consumption, heavy communication with distant server, high disk usage, etc...).
At Krakeno we rather decided to develop our in-house software, to get an efficient and clean solution that can leverage cloud based infrastructure to natively scale; making our service cleaner, faster and more efficient in all aspects.
Our custom design also provides our users the possibility to smoothly download full playlists.
In other words; we're aiming to bring the end to all those shady websites full of concerning ads, providing only individual video download.
Thanks for the kind words 😙
We're in beta because we want to tackle most of Youtube's edge cases, and provide an extremely reliable tool in Krakeno's final version.
You can try out our software for free at krakeno.com, or be one of the first 10 beta users and get a lifetime 50% discount (ONLY 7 left).
If you have any question, suggestions or vague remark, you can comment bellow, contact me personally at arthur_b@krakeno.com or use our contact form krakeno.com/contact.
There's prob a segment of people that are more likely to download playlists vs. individual videos. If you could find that segment, that would help a lot in getting an initial traction IMO.
Thanks for your excellent advice! We've came to the same conclusion and are currently contacting targeted individuals
Hey nice work launching this! I'm curious to learn a bit more about how you're renting servers powered by renewable energy?
Thanks a lot!
The hardest part is to find a hosting company that use data-centers only powered by renewable energy . Most cloud provider have a limited number of regions under that criteria, if any (e.g. DigitalOcean is green in FRA1, AMS2, AMS3 LON1)
If you are exigent like us, you can also look into their power consumption efficiency and cooling method.
Due to our specific requirements we had to switch two times of cloud provider, however it is now really satisfying to know we are a carbon free microSaaS 🌍
Thank you for the tip, I have a few servers in my region. I'm definitely interested in supporting more green initiatives, so I'll look into this further.
Also, if I may ask, how are you planning to plant the trees? Have you tied up with someone for this?
If you want an introduction to green web initiatives, I encourage you to read The Green Web Foundation's blog. They've got some really nice resources
We plan to donate from 3 to 5 trees per subscription to Trees for the future. They are a highly recognized NGO and offer the possibility to form a partnership which is nice
Whoa, that's amazing! I will give it a shot, it's like that browser that plants a tree for every search you make, pretty awesome idea. I actually use a https://ymp4.download/en4/ to convert videos from YouTube into Mp4 for my job. I mean, it helps my job cause you see, I'm a preschool teacher and the internet in the facility is simply awful, so I have to prepare in advance from home all the videos I want to show the kids and it spares me from having to hear them cry and scream cause the video is not loading. I'll also give this a shot when I need to download full playlists of music when we have a dance day.
If you are one of the first 10 beta users subscribing a plan; I'll personally contact you to apply the discount 😉
