BetaPage vs ProductHunt, community-wise

Several weeks ago I submitted TimeTurtle to BetaPage. I felt uncomfortable with the paid option they offered, so I accepted the 40 days it takes to review my submission. Then 1.5 weeks ago I got notified that TimeTurtle would be featured on the next day, so I quickly polished the landing page, made some screenshots, and hoped for the best. Basically nothing happened …

Yesterday I launched on ProductHunt, and the result is much better. TimeTurtle even made it to the front page.

Ok, I was better prepared this time, but I also get the impression that ProductHunt is much more a community of tech lovers, resulting in a more fair system, whereas BetaPage feels more like an … advertisement company: you can submit for free, but if you want to have a chance at reaching the front page, you need to pay.

What are your thoughts and/or experiences? How do you feel about paying for BetaPage? And also for alternatives like BetaList, which seems to adopt a similar modal as BetaPage.

Congrats on the launch 🎉 and cool project! What was your process for launching on product hunt? I feel like everything I ever try to post to PH gets buried immediately..

I briefly described my process here: https://www.indiehackers.com/product/timeturtle/-LnMN6sG5rwJuIGbGj6R

I think it helps to put a banner linking to your PH launch page on your website. Then any additional traffic you can get to your website may also help get upvotes on PH. On launch day I also emailed current subscribers, send out a tweet, and posted on LinkedIn. I don't think these've helped significantly though. But there was quite some additional traffic from IH, probably from above-mentioned post, and from another IH post. Assuming some IH's are also active on PH, that might have helped.

    Congrats!

Well, about BetaPage, literally nothing happened...as you said.

When I posted on PH , my product, colorsandfonts.com,was featured on 9th place with 1200 + visits

    SideList. Even Tweeted about it...
Then I got featured on Muzli Magazine by InVision a week ago and I am getting around 500 users daily...

I have probably submitted in 30 + places...but nothing like Ph.

    Edit:

Som more places to list it.

Wow, nice to hear launching on ProductHunt can make such a big difference. I've seen that link, I plan on submitting in more places, but indeed, I don't expect as much response as from PH.

and apart from those 2, are there any other similar platforms?

Any specific experience to support this? My feeling is that it's more the other way around: it's only worth it if you pay. But then you have to be willing to pay.
