Better image format for speed optimization?
Google speed test suggest to switch my PNG background image to a "next-gen format", based on the explanation:
"Image formats like JPEG 2000, JPEG XR, and WebP often provide better compression than PNG or JPEG, which means faster downloads and less data consumption. "
Is it true? I didn't encounter the use of such formats in websites I visit.
Just to want to confirm this.
I got this same issue when I deployed my gatsby site. I ended up fixing it by using this image compressing website: https://imagecompressor.com/
Didn't check support for a while, webp had Chrome native support for a long while and some systems had conditional includes just for Chrome for that image type, even PNG took forever to get to IE...
You can just try an online converter test for the images and see what it means to you...
Is 10% reduction meaningful for you or not lets say...
