Sales and marketing are crucial, but there's a hidden gem for growth: customer success.
Think about it. When you try new tools, amazing customer support makes the difference. It creates a smooth experience and keeps you coming back.
Customer Success is your key to sustainable growth.
Here's the thing: prioritizing customer success isn't just about keeping users happy (although that's important too!). It's a strategic move that fuels sustainable growth for your business.
Here's why I think so:
Acquiring new customers is crucial, but retaining existing ones is far more cost-effective. Happy customers become loyal users, reducing churn and boosting your bottom line.
Great customer support builds a community around your product. Happy users become your brand advocates, attracting new users organically through positive word-of-mouth.
Actively listening to customer feedback helps you find areas for improvement and make your product even better.
Investing in customer success isn't just about fixing problems; it's about building a loyal user base that fuels sustainable growth. By prioritizing your customers' needs and fostering a positive experience, you'll create brand advocates who become your most powerful marketing asset.
Here are some tips to get you started:
Set your users up for success from the beginning with a well-structured onboarding process. This could include interactive tutorials, personalized walkthroughs, or readily available resources.
Offer a variety of options for users to get help, such as live chat for immediate assistance, a comprehensive knowledge base for self-service troubleshooting, and email ticketing for more complex issues.
Keep asking for feedback to see where you can improve and keep meeting your users' needs.
Keep an eye on key customer success metrics, like Net Promoter Score (NPS) and Customer Satisfaction (CSAT), to see how well you're doing.
I'm happy to learn about how you're implementing and powering customer support at your business.
This is a great point about customer churn! In my experience, focusing on customer success has led to a significant reduction in churn for our business.
In our case, providing personalized onboarding and understanding organization dynamics has been key to successful implementation. It's a completely different ball game when you're implementing software at the department or company-wide level.
Thank you for sharing your experience @stephenjeske. Reducing churn is a major benefit of customer success.
Can you elaborate a bit more on how you personalize onboarding for different size companies or departments? Are there specific resources or strategies you've found particularly effective?
Sure! In the case of MarketMuse, our software helps everyone in the content production cycle, from content strategy through writing. So we need to onboard people with a varied set of skills and interests.
So the first thing we need to do is determine people's roles. Sometimes that can be fuzzy — you can have a group of people where each person has specialized roles. But you can have an equal sized group where everyone does everything.
I've created resources specifically for these segments, plus a general orientation for stakeholders who aren't using the platform.
We use a combination of human-led and self-led onboarding, so we have to be able to deliver those resources in both cases.
The other challenge is that different people have different preferred learning modes, to which you also need to cater.
Got it! Thanks for sharing this. It's really personalized per segment. I really liked this approach. Do you use newsletters to share these resources, or do you communicate with users through help support tools like Intercom for sharing these resources?
Yes. We use Pendo as an in-app support tool. It does more than that and I'm sure there are less expensive solutions out there. During onboarding, you ask users questions that allow them to self-select what segment they fall into. That way you can provide them with the appropriate resources in-app. You could do the same thing with a newsletter, but I think it's a better experience if you can provide it right there when and where they need it.
I do agree with integrating self-selection during onboarding and it makes sense to deliver support right where users need it most. Thanks for sharing your insights.
