They don't own the word 'basket'.

They don't own the word 'basket'.

      Exactly. Their claims are meaningless.

I have no idea how they'll even fight this claim in courts. Trademark laws don't protect generic names like "basket" too.

        How about Windows?

Facebook has the word "book" trademarked. Ridiculous, I know.

        But look at this: https://www.dictionary.com/e/facebooktrademark/

I hope BB stops acting like a sissy and leaves DailyBasket in peace though.

In 2010, Facebook sued and successfully shut down a startup travel website called Placebook. Then, in 2011, Facebook sued a teacher-and-student site called Teachbook.

This is ridiculous! Can't believe Fb is like I'm gonna trademark english words and sue struggling startups that use them, even though they're soooo not related.

Yeah, I hope they leave them respectfully too and engage in a fair competition instead.

This is something that concerns me about some companies in the Indian start-up ecosystem. Companies like Byjus/WhiteHat Jr suing critics (from investors to random Youtubers). BigBasket suing a random start-up without any strong grounds. This is just weird and highly inappropriate. BigBasket issued a clarification on Twitter which is hilarious to read.

I hope some of these Indian start-ups rise above these petty, crooked competition killing tactics and focus more on building strong, product-first businesses. Would love to see the court hold them accountable.

All the best luck but i must say, very good job beating their billion dollar asses with 2 people :) your product looks superior to their design :)

Not my product. DailyBasket is "their" product, from a team of 2 in Coimbatore, India. I'm sharing to support their cause and help them fight this kind of corporate bullying.

But yeah, they've really done a great job in making a superior product and have ambitious plans for the future.

It is possible that BB are doing this to try and acquire DB's domain name (it's a good name, certainly as good as BB). Look up reverse domain name hijacking.

Kudos to DailyBasket for thoroughly breaking down BigBasket's accusations. However, I wouldn't personally have put a shred of effort into telling them to put that letter where the sun doesn't shine :)
