Blogs on WordPress: What are your recommended plugins and why?

I'm in the process of finishing up my blog. I'm curious what your recommended WordPress plugins are and why?

I would prefer hearing your word-of-mouth recommendations over the info found on Google, as it's hard to discern what's legit and whats pushing for affiliates.

Thanks

    Hello @JoelPickin

I agree with @8bit, for my blog, blog.granthackers.club, I use jetpack. I would also add that Wordfence is a must to keep your blog protected.

Although my blog is about helping (mostly) academics to up their grant-writing game, and it can also be useful to startups, SMEs, NGOs who need to win funding, because of the “hackers” in its name, the blog has attracted a constant stream of people trying to hack into it and Wordfence has kept them at bay (so far). So I very highly recommend it.

      Appreciate the response.

I'm looking into using Jetpack and I currently use Wordfence on my blog too.

Its funny that you have a target on your through your use of the word "Hacking"

i've been using wordpress for more than a decade... and have learned quite a few things, especially after building themes and plugins for many years.

i use only one at the moment... jetpack. that's it.

i had used yoast, forever, but ditched it a few months back finally.

      Thanks for the response @8Bit

I will look into Jetpack, I've heard it being used a by a few people.

What do you do about SEO on your blog now you're not using Yoast?

honestly, most blogs won't need it. overkill.
