Book summaries generated by ChatGPT

Hello indie hackers,

With all the cool stuff being built using AI and ChatGPT, I also decided to jump on the bandwagon and build something.

One of the most common ways I used ChatGPT is generating book summaries.

I’ve tried lots of books both popular as well as not well known ones in specific topics. For all the cases, ChatGPT did an amazing job.

I immediately saw it replacing the popular apps like Blinkist and others.

Why would I subscribe to a service while I can get the same value or even better with ChatGPT.

The only issue was the inconvenience of using the chat ui for that purpose.

After seeing the potential, decided to create a small app that would provide better experience for generating book summaries.

After developing it for few days, and going through the App Store review for a week, the app was finally launched.

Currently it is at the MVP stage and has following features:

  1. Search for any book of your choice
  2. Generate summary, key ideas, quotes and actionable items from the book
  3. Read and revisit key ideas and quotes

Will be adding more features and improving it regularly inshallah.

It’s available on the App Store.

Please check it out and share your thoughts. Would love to hear them.

It’s also launched on Product Hunt.
Check it out and upvote if you like it.

Just upvoted on PH, do you have an Android version planned?
One question that comes to my mind, how do you handle the token limit to summarize a full book.

Thanks a lot. I’m building a web app rn and have plans to start Android soon as well.

We don’t train ChatGPT with contents of books. It already has all the data until 2021 so itself generates the summaries.

Great idea! Are you building a Chrome extension for this as well? I think that would be a really useful tool. I was also wondering if the same concept could be applied to articles and pages on the internet through an extension.

Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

      Thank you.

I’ve thought about Chrome extension that would give summaries for books I’m browsing on Amazon or somewhere else. However it’s not a priority and may add it further down the line.

Currently focused on mobile apps and a web app.
