Booksaver: Highlight to save books from anywhere
Created a new extension! Previously envisioned it as a web application but some research has led me to repurpose it as an extension. I'm surprised more developers aren't keen on building extensions as (a) there's built in distribution, and (b) is a natural extension of user behavior.
Either way, would love to hear what you all think. I will definitely be sharing progress as I continue my indiehacking journey. Feedback is more than appreciated :)
Hey, this is very cool but perhaps quite niche. I am trying it out right now and it is working great.
Try to post to reddit r/books or similar with people who enjoy reading. Facebook also probably has some reading groups. I'd try to target people who read -a lot-, several books a month. Perhaps find some on reddit and DM them directly and ask to try the extension. Also, when posting about it include pictures to easily convey the concept.
Is your monetization strategy to earn affiliate seller commission on each sale? Just asking because that seems like a solid strategy and not bad for the user.

Thanks for such detailed feedback and recommendations. I think cold reaching out to individuals is something I had not considered. I was having difficulty getting it onto the larger subreddits due to self-promotion rules but I may just have to "brute force" the first couple users.
As of now, that's the only monetization strategy. I'm not exactly sure how profitable it will be (will have to gauge purchases / user / mo when there are enough users). If you have any suggestions in this realm would appreciate it as well!

Quick question regarding your own extension, how many installs/ratings did it take for you to start getting healthy organic traction through the chrome store?
It depends; sometimes it can start right away but usually a few months. If nothing happens after that I try updating the store listing title and/or description. Sometimes the app title can make all the difference, for example if you experiment with "Booksaver" vs. "Booksaver - {descriptive keywords}" vs "{descriptive keywords} - Booksaver" will likely have different results. Webstore search is magnitudes worse at providing relevant results than google search (go figure!) so adding some keywords that people will likely use tends to help.
The one extension I have that got really big was because it ranks high in organic search on google, not web store. No clue how to reverse engineer that though, wish I did!
