Here's a gatsby+contentful based concept for the landing page :

Would love your feedback before I lock myself in my room for a week writing copy!
As a dev agency I feel the design should be much better.
I would have a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcvTGK3kO10 lots of good ideas in it
Thanks for sharing mate, looking into it now!
This is a template for a blog not for company presentation. Maybe, do some research in the industry and check webs of successful dev companies for inspiration. That's what we did when we were building our website of mobile dev company (Lunadio.com). Key factors are: portfolio and references. You need to build a credibility.
Thanks for the feedback dude, the problem I'm facing is that although I've worked with major brands, eg. recently was the tech lead for the Australian Open 2020 (Tennis). They've always been subcontracts through other agencies so I don't have much direct work I can advertise. So I thought I might mix featured projects with featured articles so it doesn't look so sparse also can't have a "team" section because right now it's just me. But as you pointed out, it's now looking like a blog. Anyone else faced this problem when starting out? how did you get around it?
You can use logos of companies/projects you have worked for (eg. Australian Open). I understand your work is under NDA but you can create a portfolio project without branding where you describe the scope of the work, problem, solution, etc. and you can say it was the biggest tennis tournament in Australia. The team section is not so important, nobody has to know you are a one-man show right now.
Also for a GatsbyJS site it loaded pretty slow?
Wasn't optimized, this cloudfront version https://d2k54tbpn97bc9.cloudfront.net/ should be much faster
Honestly it doesn’t matter since most of your costumers will come from direct sales.
love the night mode button
Haha thanks dude!
I use night mode on my iPhone most of the time and find it super annoying when websites / apps don't support it, makes me squint looking at the bright backgrounds! I'm adding some code to detect if you're in night mode on your phone and automatically toggle it on based on that.
Cheers :D
Hey cyberpunk,
Something which I would suggest is to definitely put writing copy as a priority before you even think about the design of your landing page.
From my experience, thinking about the design can be VERY distracting - you'll start thinking how to fit your copy within the design (instead of the other way around) - which is imposing limits on the copy itself and what are you trying to describe with your writing (there is no room for copy to "breath" and actually explain clearly your services to prospects).
Once you have the copy ready you can layout a quick wireframe that will help you outline call to action areas and other important sections (social proof, past work, etc.) - and then you can think about designing a visually appealing page.
I hope that helps!
Hey Milos!
Thanks for the detailed feedback :)
The problem I'm facing in starting with copy is that there isn't much to write about. I've delivered some very high profile projects for major brands eg. recently was the tech lead for the Australian Open 2020 (Tennis) with millions of daily active users across the globe, built an enterprise web app for Deloitte amongst many others, they've always been subcontracts through other agencies so I don't have much direct work I can advertise.
Also can't have a "team" section because right now it's just me. So copy is something I'm really struggling with. Anyone else faced this problem when starting out? how did you get around it?
Best regards :)
Hey @cyberpunk,
So here's the thing... I think that your answer is already a draft of your upcoming copy.
I would start with descriptions for each of your projects - describe your role, your client, and the end results.
Research your client's brands and their positioning in their markets and take notes (from Wikipedia, "Australian Open has grown to become one of the biggest sporting events in the Southern Hemisphere.").
Be sure to point out that you were working through agencies and not directly when applicable.
Once you have those notes, you can utilize them to craft the copy for your landing page. Outline it as a story or use an AIDA formula. Don't worry about the team page.
For example:
Headline/Intro:
[who you are] + [what you do] + [what is one of your core strengths for prospects]
Subheadline + Add-On Copy:
I worked on project X for a client X who is one of the top leaders in X industry with X awards (this is where market positioning can go which I mentioned beforehand or details like "millions of daily active users").
[testimonial or certifications or both]
[list of works]
[CTA]
And so on... good luck!
