Hey everyone! I’m Rebecca, and I manage operations and digital growth for E.W. MacDowell Roofing down in West Palm Beach, Florida.
I know Indie Hackers is heavily focused on SaaS and digital products, but I wanted to share our journey of growing a traditional, local service business. We’ve been operating for 17 years, completely bootstrapped, and built our foundation almost entirely on word-of-mouth referrals and physical community trust.
However, the local service landscape is changing. Over the last few years, we’ve realized that to keep scaling and competing, we have to treat our digital presence with the same structural integrity as the roofs we build.
Right now, my biggest focus is transitioning our "analog" reputation into digital authority. We are working on:
Revamping our local SEO strategy to compete with massive lead-gen directories.
Educating homeowners on leak detection and structural integrity through content, rather than just waiting for their roof to fail.
Streamlining our operations and customer communication stack.
My question for the IH community: For those of you building tools or running agencies, what are the most underrated digital growth levers you see traditional, brick-and-mortar service businesses missing out on today?
I'd love to connect, trade notes on local SEO, or hear about any operational tools you love!
