Brainstorming - Revenue model for my career advice platform

Hi guys,

I'd be curious to see what other fellow IH think about how to monetise my career advice platform www.mentory.me

Would you take a % of the sessions that are booked between mentors & mentees? (marketplace)

Would you charge a subscription to the platform so it allows mentees to book a certain number of sessions per month with mentors (Saas)? This one is tricky because if a mentee books sessions with several mentors, not sure how you'd compensate the mentors...

Would you let mentors to charge a subscription fee per week/month and if users want to take sessions with several mentors they need to pay different subscriptions...?

Something else?

Any ideas are more than welcome :)

You could take advertising sponsorship from job sites.

You could charge a percentage of the feed paid for single hits.

You could charge for access to 'premium' mentors.

e.g. sign up for $50 per month, get one free session with a 'premium' mentor (which you would pay the mentor $30? for and keep the rest. Then offer a discounted rate on single sessions with premium mentors say $40 which you keep 10% of.

I'm guessing you've got this already, but when I think through monetisation, I try and pair value to the model as closely as possible.

To give a simple example, if I'm using it consistently and perhaps never expect to churn - monthly. If it's a one/few-hit thing - cost on a per-unit basis.

With that in mind, what's the normal length of interaction between mentors and mentees? If it's 12+ months, subscription/something recurring feels right. If it's only 2/3 interactions, perhaps it's a one-hit fee (e.g. % of a session).

As with anything, I'd say make a best guess and test it. Pose it to a subset of your users, see the response (probably through qual interviews first, rather than doing a quant test).
