Hi Indie Hackers !
I'd like to know a bit of your experience/point of view about how good/bad it is to actually build a SaaS product that is already having concurrent on its "market".
Actually I built a SaaS product without any competitors in the past but it was a real struggle to find my public - I had to close the service due to that.
Now any service I'm trying to think about is already having a competition set up. I'm wondering how should I balance competition (and thus large public) and monopole (much smaller public) in many cases ?
Should I engage myself building my own SaaS product in a competitive market (not targeting to be the number one) or should I just brainstorm again and again to find a better opportunity in between competition and large public?
What do you think? Am I the only one struggling with this?

Short answer: it’s very often an advantage to have established competitors. It makes your life easier.
...unless you have millions of $ to spend to educate a new market and are cool with the fact that fast-followers will rush like shark to blood as soon as you’ve proven the market.
Side note: it’s often a good strategy to solve a broad problem for a super niche audience (eg by business size, industry, etc).
Uncle DC explains perfectly my thoughts regarding this:
