[Build Log] Sleep Apps Are Exploding. I’m Building One to Flip in 90 Days

Hey IH,

I’ve been tracking app store data on Sensor Tower and noticed something interesting: sleep apps are quietly exploding right now.

Lumenate: Explore & Relax → up 11 spots
BetterSleep → up 16 spots (and has been Apple’s App of the Day 65+ times!)
White Noise Deep Sleep Sounds → up 33 spots

That kind of jump usually means one thing: downloads + revenue are heating up.

Why I Think This Market Is Ripe

  1. 62% of adults say they don’t get enough sleep
  2. People want non-pharma solutions (sounds, meditation, light therapy, AI guidance)
  3. Wearables like Apple Watch + Oura make sleep tracking mainstream
  4. Sleep apps are habit-forming → once users rely on them, churn is low

My Plan
I’m an indie iOS dev, and here’s what I’m doing:
Build a lean MVP (sleep sounds + journaling + bedtime reminders + AI coaching layer).
Acquire early customers through direct outreach (wellness coaches, clinics, and individuals).
Flip the app within ~90 days once it shows traction (MRR + ASO + reviews).
The goal isn’t to compete with BetterSleep, but to catch the wave while demand is hot.

Why I’m Sharing Here
To get feedback from other indie founders: What would you add/remove from a “sleep MVP”?
To connect with anyone building in health/wellness apps.
To share the journey transparently → I’ll post updates on revenue, features, and what works in flipping.

💬 What do you think? is this the right time to jump into the sleep segment, or too crowded already?
Would love to hear your thoughts!
